Radiation Technologies for Food Processing, Agriculture and Water Resources Management
held on 30th March, 2013 at Mysore
INS, Mysore branch, in association with Association of Food scientists and Technologists, India conducted a one day Technical Seminar on Radiation Technologies for Food Processing, Agriculture & Water Resources Management on 30th March 2013 in Rani Bahadur Auditorium, University of Mysore. The seminar attracted good response and 270 delegates including scientists from BARC, CFTRI, DFRL and students / facility members of many science/ Engineering / Agriculture colleges located in and around Mysore attended.
The objective of the seminar was to propagate the knowledge about the benefits of applying these technologies to the society at large. The seminar organizers had selected Leading Experts in the country from National laboratories and Academic institutions to present their work on the important topics in line with global trends. The seminar details are given in the attached Boucher.
Dr. K. B. Sainis, Director, BMG, BARC, inaugurated the seminar and in his address he highlighted the impact of research work of BARC scientists in food and agriculture sectors at the grassroot level.
Dr. H. V. Batra, Director, DFRL, Sri V. V. Bhat, MF, AEC, Dr. Gursharan Singh, Secretary, INS, Dr. D. V. Gopinath , INS, Mysore, Dr. G. Vijayalakshmi, Sr. Scientist, CFTRI, and Sri T. K. Bera, Project Director, BARC, Mysore, graced the occasion and spoke in length about the societal benefits being devid from non-power applications of indigenous nuclear technologies.
Informative and interesting presentations were made by Dr. A. K. Sharma, BARC, on recent developments in Radiation Processing of Food and Agriculture commodities, Dr. S F D’souza, TNAU, on Radio tracers in Agriculture, Dr U Saravanakumar, BARC, on Isotope Hydrology applications, Dr Jayathilakan, DFRL, on ionizing radiation for processing of meat and meat products, Dr. N. Ramamoorthy, DAE, on international cooperation for radiation applications in Food and Agriculture and Sri S. K. Malhotra on radiation applications touching the lives of common men.
An exhibition depicting the radiation technologies developed by BARC for Food and Agriculture sectors was also arranged at the seminar venue. All the talks were well appreciated as was evident in an interesting panel discussion following the presentations.
A booklet confining full text of all the papers was released during the seminar. Many delegates expressed their happiness about BARC, CFTRI and DFRL joining hands and wished more such programmes in future. This well attended seminar was compared by Sri Joseph Thomas and vote of thanks was proposed by Sri. V. Ramprasad.
